We're All Mad Here - Season 1 Episode 1
Where Stone Whispered “Home”
After a swim in slightly murky, salty water I reached shore and carved out rough stairs in the dirt and stone. They lead to a cave inlet tucked into the side of a sheer cliff face. Gazing upon the jagged terrain, I felt it... something deep within the stone itself.
"Home"
And if that vibe wasn't quite enough of a sign, there... within the stone chunks of coal needed to light my path. To what, you might ask? My first encounter with an animated Skeleton! Naturally I attempted Diplomacy. It declined. What followed was a brief but decisive battle. A fight to the death with me as the victor.
After a few days exploring the cavern I begun calling home, I emerged with a craving for something... greener. The world outside did not disappoint. Through means I won't fully question-I transformed a handful of planks into a perfectly functional boat and began to travel. I befrended a black horse and harvested a collection of surprisingly lightweight pumpkins. I drifted across the waters for a time, taking it all in. And then... I felt it again. The mountain was calling. So, without further hesitation... I returned.
The transformation began
With the decision made now... the work began. I set out to explore the mountain's exterior, tracing its edges and listening for anything... unusual. It revealed more than I expected. Hidden, overlooked openings, which offered so much potential.
One such discovery lead to an upper cavern system. After some effort (and a bit of stubborn determination) I connected it to my home below. The mountain was no longer just a shelter. It was becoming mine. Of course, the mountain didn't yield without resistance. Another skeleton emerged from the dark and it met the same fate as the first. However, not all encounters were so familiar.
A shambling figure approached soon after. My first encounter with what I can only describe as a zombie. It was slow... but persistent. However, our fight drew the attention of something... worse. A creature that hissed. I did not stay to learn more.
Instead, I made a rapid and, in hindsight, very unintentional decision to leap from the upper cavern into the waters below. Luckily the sound of an explosion did not follow, which confirmed I had chosen wisely.
With danger temporarily behind me, I turned my focus inward. The cavern began to change. Walls were shaped... space was claimed... and perhaps most importantly... life was introduced. A small indoor garden now grows within a carved out stone pocket that had fresh water.
It is still rough... still unfished. But it is no longer just a cave. It is a beginning. The mountain tested me... and I remained. again this isn't just shelter anymore. It's becoming home.
